The speculations keep flowing! 9to5mac now reports that Apple has not killed the possibility of a white iPhone 4 and in fact it is very much coming by 'late spring 2011'. I'm sure this is good news for all those who felt let down when Apple announced that the white iPhone was being pushed back indefinitely.
This also explains why Apple scrambled to put a stop to the white iPhones that were being sold by some kid out of New York. Even if they were planning on killing their own white iPhone, an unauthorized production was never getting too far under the radar. With the late spring 2011 release forthcoming, look for iPhone 4 sales to receive a statistical upswing around that time. However, I wouldn't want to buy a white iPhone 4. I'd rather wait for the iPhone 5 (whenever that comes). Getting a white iPhone 4 would mean renewing my contract with AT&T for another 2 years, I wouldn't be eligible for an upgrade by then so would probably have to pay the full price and that would make upgrading to an iPhone 5 even more difficult. Hopefully an iPhone 5 should be out by summertime next year. So I'd rather wait those few extra months for the newer hardware.
Over the last week or so current iPad prices have dropped all around. Even Apple dropped prices by $41 after Thanksgiving. Then there was the TJ Maxx fiasco where 16GB iPads were made available for a loss at $399; a full hundred dollars less than the retail price. To me, all these signs point towards an eventual price drop on the iPad to make room for an iPad 2. The new iPad 2 is rumored to have hardware upgrades while keeping the physical dimensions the same. A front facing camera, faster processor, more RAM and larger storage seem inevitable. It is highly unlikely that the iPad 2 would feature a 7-inch, or in fact, a less than the current 9.7-inch screen. But then again, stranger things have happened. A retina display on an iPad also seems too far-fetched as I would assume it would be too expensive.
I would definitely buy an iPad 2 when it becomes available. With the iPad, the sky is the limit for future upgrades. There are so many things that can be bettered to make the device phenomenal all over again. I can't imagine a thinner and lighter iPad compared to the already sleek design. Higher screen resolution would be welcome. I don't see an HDMI output port coming either because AirPlay has taken off nicely. I do think, however, that AirPlay will receive upgrades and soon most apps will have an AirPlay button. When Safari gets the AirPlay upgrade it will mean having a browser on your big screen television through AppleTV.
As always, Apple continues to keep everyone interested. The tablet and smartphone wars are just getting started and 2011 will definitely feature a few giant steps by Android devices which are, at the moment anyways, playing catch up to their iOS counterparts. I'm eagerly waiting to see a tablet that truly gives the iPad a run for it's money because I don't think the current Samsung Galaxy Tab does that. For once it will be fun to wait and watch.
