The Death of HP's WebOS

What a shocker! Well, probably, not really a shocker. Within a mere weeks of launching their TouchPad, HP announced that it will kill off it's WebOS devices. And for good reason; sluggish sales.

So who's to blame?
Lack of innovation perhaps? Or maybe just Apple's success? I think the latter seems more likely with a hint of the former. When HP announced WebOS and it's TouchPad and Palm products a few months ago, it looked promising. There were hopes of a third or maybe fourth competitor in the mobile OS war (iOS, Android and Windows?). There were good features and some not so good. But all that is history now. There's no point in talking about a product that never took off.

There are reports that some retailers in Canada have slashed TouchPad prices to $99. No such discounts from US stores yet. But if at all such a day comes where you can buy a 16 gig tablet for under $100, would you buy one? I think I would pass on it even though the price is uber-appealing. I'll save my money for the much awaited iPad with a retina display.

For now it's so long to WebOS.
